Leaving

I was so close to leaving you, my love
When the sea called me that night
The siren song in its black waves
Promising to end all the pain
The cold water an escape I’d been searching for
Drunk on liquor and the idea that love was something too good to be true
That I’d fucked it all up
And you were lost to me forever
I can still feel the wet sand beneath my bare feet
And the wind whipping my hair around my face as I stared into that darkness
And it stared right back
