Like a Thousand Knives

Sweet, like a toothache
Transparent, like layers of cotton
warm like the sun shining when it’s only forty degrees…
You cause me nothing but a troubled heart
I bite into you and the juices run down my lips
The serpent laughs in my face

The temptation I gave into
The regrets I’ll always have
And the ones I should have but don’t
You haunt my dreams
Still, after all this time
I see those piercingly blue eyes
Looking into my soul
And it unnerves me
You are nothing and everything that I want
How can that be so?
Stay out of my mind, please!
I want to be rid of these memories
They pierce my heart
Like a thousand knives
And it hurts

but somehow, I’ll always love you still.
