I give a deep inhale of breath
“You’re so fucking beautiful,” he says
“That’s because of what you want from me,” I say back
he traces a finger down my spine
looking right through me
with those blue eyes
the eyes of someone who will chew me up and spit me out
he steps on some seaweed and hops on one foot
I laugh at him through the wind
that’s whipping my hair around my face
the sun is setting and he brings me a sand dollar
I’m freezing but I don’t say so
He wraps me up in front of him
and then we’re not saying a word
the sky is falling around me

You’re all wrong for me, I think out loud
“Maybe that means I’m all right,” he says

and then he kisses me and I am melting into sunset and salt.
